Internet Access

Mar. 2006

A recent study shows that while 61% of all U.S. households have broadband internet access, 37% were still using dial-up to access the internet. What that means to you is, when building your web site make sure that you don't leave 37% of your potential customers behind. Optimize your site for everyone.

Holmquist Design Services, LLC is a full-service "end-to-end" graphic design and web development firm. We founded Holmquist Design in 2002 with 43 years of combined "front lines education" in desktop publishing and design, incomparable customer service, computers and technology, and website design and development.

In 2 short years, we have fostered relationships with more than 100 clients on projects ranging from not-for-profit fundraising to cover-to-cover magazine design to small business brand development to websites for more industries than we even knew existed. Our network of providers for everything from embroidered shirts, printing, and vehicle signage to web hosting, search engine optimization, and database development allows us to offer our clients seamless solutions, whatever their need.

Michelle, the creative one, has a Bachelor's degree in Advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and 17 years of design and printing experience with the U of I, Kinko's, Xerox, and literally hundreds of client companies, organizations, and individuals. In addition, Michelle enjoys teaching a design & marketing class at the local technical college, and spent several years teaching customer service at Fortune 500 companies. From an early age, she had an almost insatiable desire to support people in realizing their dreams. Whether as a crew or supporting cast member in school drama productions, a coordinator for college freshman orientation, a volunteer for non-profit fundraisers, or a designer for new and growing entrepreneurs, Michelle's drive remains the same — to help people succeed.

Steve, the self-proclaimed "code monkey", touched his first computer, an Apple II, in 1978. He's been making them sing ever since he programmed that first one to play Für Elise. After 20 years of being the guy everyone called (and no one paid) when their computer misbehaved, he spent 7 years marching to the drum of corporate tech departments. After programming sites for Firestone, Carson's, Firstar Bank, Kohler, and others, he now brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the designs Michelle creates — resulting in websites that don't just look good, but work like a dream for every visitor using any browser. It's a powerful combination that's surprisingly uncommon with most web developers.
